SEO Steers the Ship

Posted by: Jocelyn Edin

You absolutely cannot ignore search engine optimization (SEO) when developing your online presence. There is too much out there; people have too little time; and Google is the first place many of us go to find anything. My recent example is looking to purchase eyeglasses for my four-year-old daughter Gwen.

This will be her first time in glasses and we were free to go wherever we preferred to pick them out. I wear glasses, but I’ve owned the same pair for many years and don’t feel tied to any specific shop. And I definitely wasn’t knowledgeable about childrens’ glasses. Where would we find a nice, stylish selection? How can I avoid princess cartoons wallpapering the frames?

So I did a quick Google search (childrens glasses ann arbor) and a small eyeglass boutique in Northville came up first. Hmm, not even Ann Arbor, but the location sounded interesting because I had never been to downtown Northville and it’s a quick drive over from where I live in Whitmore Lake. It would be a fun outing for Gwen and I. After visiting the site, reading all about children’s glasses, and seeing enough photos to make me comfortable and excited, I made my decision.

Thousands of decisions like this are made every day, and so often SEO steers the choice. Of course, you have to follow that up with a complete brand experience; a well-designed, functioning site, quality products, satisfying space and helpful staff and support, etc., but this would all mean very little if no one could find you. This topic is so hugely important that folks have written books on the subject. It’s something that Q pays close attention to and incorporates into each site we develop.

I was very pleased with where my search results led me. Gwen and I had a fun afternoon exploring downtown Northville; she found an adorable pair of glasses, the staff was wonderful, and I was able to speak with their webmaster and congratulate him on his very well done and effective SEO.
