Q Designs and Develops Unique Site for Michigan’s Poets
19 Apr 2012
Design firm Q LTD recently launched a new web site for One Pause Poetry, an organization working to help spread the word, sound, and experience of poetry throughout Michigan and beyond.
Working with One Pause Poetry’s Sarah Messer, Q LTD’s objective was to design and build a dynamic and flexible web site that will become an online resource for a community of professional poets, writers, and artists.
One Pause Poetry is a place to experience poetry the way the authors intended, through extensive audio and video clips of readings by some of Michigan’s most notable and award-winning poets.
From a creative perspective, the One Pause site was designed to provide a space for visitors to immerse themselves in the audible experience of poetry, explains Jocelyn Edin, art director at Q LTD. “This was achieved through a minimalist, Zen-inspired design which reinforces the organization's name and mission, focusing the user on the content, specifically the poetry readings.” says Edin.
Q LTD’s interactive team developed the site within a web-based, open-source content management system to give the One Pause Poetry team members easier access to the site in order to make updates and add content.
The new One Pause Poetry site will help to increase attendance at local poetry events and raise awareness nationally. The site’s unique features include an ever-expanding media-rich library of poets and poetry, an interactive map of upcoming poetry events in the region, and a collection of readings from the organization’s national MP3 Project.
One Pause Poetry is a non-profit organization supported by the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, private donors, local businesses, interns, and more than 40 volunteers.
