Juigalpa
November 2003
Kip Eckroad and Tom Rieke visited Juigalpa, Ann Arbor's sister city in Nicaragua, November 14-19, 2003, to assess the city's very serious water problem. They were invited by the mayor of Juigalpa, Erwing Castilla, who visited Ann Arbor in July 2003.

In the dry season, Juigalpa's water system supplies only about 20 percent of the city's requirements for clean water. The situation is better in the rainy season, but even then the system supplies just 60 percent of the water that Juigalpa residents need for daily life.

Kip is an engineer who has worked on healthcare and social problems in many countries around the world for the past 30 years. He is especially interested in water systems.
