This past Thursday, a small delegation from Q headed east to visit the College of Creative Studies (CCS) in downtown Detroit. Though the school expanded into the Taubman Center two years ago, many of us have not had the chance to experience the new spaces. Plus, we were able to combine the tour with an afternoon of graphic design student portfolio reviews, an inspiring day indeed.
Our gracious tour guide was the chair of the graphic design program, Doug Kisor, old friend of Q. He took us up to the top floor and we worked our way down, catching the amazing views in the conference and event spaces up top, strolling down through the various areas of study; product and transportation design, a huge focus on automotive as you can imagine, students busy sculpting their futuristic car prototypes. Interior design. Advertising. Illustration. A materials library! And finally back to graphic design, and a lovely set-up for the afternoon portfolio reviews. The students and the work were completely top-notch, fresh, inspired, and motivated.
CCS is a bright light in the sometimes dreary scene of Detroit. How fortunate we are to have that kind of creative epi-center so close by. For more photos, visit our Flickr set.
