Country Branding

Posted by: Jeff Callender

The Dutch have long been recognized for their achievements in graphic design. A penchant for good design seems to pervade the culture of the Netherlands, so it comes by no surprise that a nationwide graphic identity was commissioned by the Dutch National Government council of ministers.

As part of a national competition, the graphic identity system design was awarded to the venerable Studio Dunbar. By introducing this unified graphic identity, a concerted effort is made to end the visual fragmentation of the nation’s governing bodies, contributing to increased recognition and accessibility. Proprietary typefaces, Rijksoverheid Serif and Sans, were designed by multi-talented Peter Verheul, whose type designs and fanciful drawings I find inspiring.
