Illuminating History

Posted by: Alissa Ampezzan

While passing Union Station in Washington D.C. this past weekend, I noticed the historic facade looked different than the previous day. Indeed, it had been illuminated with The History Channel logo and the Statue of Liberty. This new-wave billboard is for the upcoming series “America: The Story of Us”. HISTORY teamed up with French lighting artist Lucette de Rugy of ArtLumiére to transform 3 historic landmarks with light: Union Station, Washington D.C.; Beverly Wilshire, Los Angeles; and Grand Central Terminal, New York.

Every evening through April 25, you can see them morph into the Great Plains, a modern cityscape, a log cabin, and more. If you can’t make it to the live show, you can watch the transformation here. I’m interested to see how this new advertising medium will trickle down. NuStep ads on the Big House? Ok, maybe not.
