Pleasantly Surprised

Greetings cyberspace, my name is Tim and I am the greenhorn here at Q. I would like to paint you a picture of what was going through my mind about what this summer internship would be.
1: My mom has always told me to find a good internship because her “design” internship involved little more than running papers from office to office, sweeping floors, and fetching coffee.
2: About two of every three design students who I have talked to from school have found internships in which they end up making sale circulars for some car audio store, header images for a household gutter company, scrubbing floors, or any number of other menial tasks.
3: My typography professor tells horror stories about working in print shops with chemicals, inks, and having to scrub lead type all day long.
4: Mojo in the Morning, Dave and Chuck the Freak (popular morning shows in Detroit) both have interns that are more like guinea pigs for the testing of crazy ideas.
Conclusion: My internship could involve me running papers, designing nothing more than 60x60px web buttons, scrubbing floors covered in lead type, all while wearing a bunny suit and singing mary had a little lamb.
That being said I would like to say thank you to Q for putting me in a position where I can in no way relate to those other internship experiences. While I have done a couple of tasks, such as scrub snowflakes off the front window and organizing boxes of CD’s, they have been perfectly enjoyable and nothing compared to the great opportunities I’ve been given already to exercise my design skills. So Q’sters, thank you. And for all you readers out there, I’ll be writing again soon, so be looking forward to me melting your mind with some of the most gnarly ideas ever! (Just kidding, I will probably just compile a bunch of other people’s words and somehow smash them together to create some kind of semi-coherent ideas of my own. Thank you all!
