Pedal with your head. That’s the headline of the campaign for BIXI, a public bicycle sharing system launched last summer in Montreal. My son, Lee, and I, had the great pleasure of utilizing this wonderfully designed system while vacationing in Quebéc in July. The system provides 5,000 bicycles and 400 stations. The city of Montréal announced contracts to export Bixi to the cities of London and Boston.

How is bicycling in Montreal? In the US, you’re required to wear a helmet, and you never really see things like women in high heels on city bikes and 5 people on a bike (ok, maybe 3 or 4) like you do in a European city like Amsterdam, where biking is a part of life and more important than driving. Is bicycling “sporty” in Montreal, as it is in the US?
