Last Thursday night, I was fortunate enough to tag along to the Storymakers Dinner, a fundraising event for 826 Michigan, held at Zingerman’s Roadhouse here in Ann Arbor. Q has graciously donated design services to 826 for a few years now, and after hearing first-hand what an effect they have on so many lives, I am so thankful Q is a part of it! Kudos go to Rob Jurewicz, our freelance creative, who designed this year’s identity and print materials, above.

826 Michigan is a volunteer group which works with school-age children to improve their writing skills. They use a robot shop on Liberty Street as an entertaining facade to introduce people to the organization. The Michigan branch is the offspring of the original 826 Valencia group, started by Dave Eggers and Nínive Calegari back in 2002.

The fundraising dinner was very lively (sold out I believe), happy, yummy (a custom menu by the Zingerman’s team), and very moving. A young teacher shared his stories and gratitude for the many 826 volunteers that enrich his classroom and strengthen his activities. Two of his students read their stories, written for class. Dave Eggers, the founder and author from San Fran, spoke to the group and read an excerpt from his latest novel, Zeitoun. It was all very uplifting, positive, and a reminder to me that writing is so extremely important for all ages, no matter what your interests or profession.
